Safe ADR storage according to PGS 15

In the Netherlands, PGS 15 (Publication Series on Hazardous Substances) serves as the guideline for storing packaged hazardous materials, with specific requirements for quantities up to and above 10,000 kg. This guideline outlines the necessary storage facilities and safety requirements you must comply with.

Storage for all ADR hazard classes

Each ADR hazard class has specific regulations tailored to the risks posed by the substance or item. These rules define how materials must be safely transported, stored, and handled. For ADR classes 2 to 6.1, 8, and 9, these are included in PGS 15; other classes are governed by different guidelines (listed below):

• ADR Class 1: Explosive substances and articles (PGS 32)

• ADR Class 2: Gases

• ADR Class 3: Flammable liquids

• ADR Class 4.1: Flammable solids

• ADR Class 4.2: Substances liable to spontaneous combustion

• ADR Class 4.3: Substances emitting flammable gases when in contact with water

• ADR Class 6.2: Infectious substances (only UN 3291 and UN 3373)

• ADR Class 7: Radioactive materials (Nuclear Energy Act)

Storage options

Besides regular PGS 15 storage for ADR goods, we offer specialized storage for hazardous substances that often fall outside standard options:

• Lithium energy carriers. Storage of lithium batteries follows the stricter PGS 37-2 guideline for lithium-containing energy carriers.

• Class 7 – Radioactive materials. We also handle ADR storage for radioactive substances in both the Netherlands and the USA.

• Class 1 – Explosive substances and articles. Special Cargo Services has multiple locations where these Class 1 goods can be safely stored.
